The launch of Oxford Cambridge Forum for Flourishing, Learning and AI in Research and Education (OxBridge FFLARE)

May 7, we are pleased to be invited to the inaugural Oxford Cambridge Forum for Flourishing, Learning and AI in Research and Education (OxBridge FFLARE) policy roundtable at King’s College, Cambridge: Evaluating AI in Education for Core Human Capabilities.

The roundtable asked the important questions of: what core human capabilities educations should develop, how the impact of AI should be assessed against these capabilities, and how teacher capacity, professional judgement and research can be built into the development, adoption, and use of AI in education?

Our research in children’s agency in the context of AI provides a strong input to these critical questions. As beautifully written by Ann Kristin (Cambridge): ``We have a unique opportunity to strengthen our human epistemic environment through AI and education, but only if we get it right. That will require research and collaborative thinking across the sector, fields, and disciplines. We also need a broad cultural and intergenerational understanding spanning geographies and demographics. One solution will not fit all.''

This first OxBridge FFLARE meeting demonstrated that we – as a community of researchers, technologists, funders, practitioners, and policymakers – are ready for the task.

The roundtable report will be published soon. Huge thank you to Professor Ann Kristin Glenster for her invitation and the brilliant Megan Ennion to make everything possible. Also thank you to our brilliant Oxford colleagues Andrew Serazin, Anthony Bridgen for including me in this critical activity.
